Conceived as a high performance one design cruiser racer, Oyster built 33 examples of the Lightwave 395 between 1988 and 1990. The 395 is exciting to sail yet with a safe and simple rig easily handled for family sailing. The Lightwave 395 has a simple masthead rig. Sails have been chosen so that ease of handling, longevity and replacement costs have all been considered. The interior finish is designed to be practical and light in a high tech theme with an absence of conventional lining panels. Examples have regularly been in the CHS prize money for events such as the Round the Island race in the past ten years and with an improved CHS rating and 10 year 'grandfather' rule are even more competitive. There remains an active class association with annual National Championship.
