As we know, TV coverage of ACT 13 is left to brief daily "Cup Dates" between NFL games this month, despite two fleet races and 18 daily match races to be completed by May 7. So here we are in the US and Canada on Tuesday morning, bright and early, all paid up on the "AmericasCupAnywhere" Live Sailing program (the old Virtual Spectator that we now have to pay for again) on screen and.......and.......NO SIMULATION! I don't know of a kind word to say about the inability of the clowns in charge of bringing the coverage to us, so I won't. Inexcusable, for certain. All I can say is that if others are having a problem in seeing the simulation, those considering buying into it should definitely wait until the reports indicate otherwise. As for me, well, I'm considering asking for my money back. What is your experience with this?

i am not going to pay to watch. Must be my scottish heritage. After the great internet and tv coverage of the VOR the coverage of the Americas Cup is pathetic to say the least. Here in Australia it has not been mentioned in any media coverage whatsoever. I hope it comes back to NZ so i can jamp on a plane for 3 hours and be there.

In the UK if you want to pay for Sky tv then you can watch some of it, I don't have sky and don't feel like paying for the privillage. As I am at work during the day all i wanted was to have a simulation on with updates, like they used too.
How are they going to get more people intrested if they close down most avialable channels to be able to enjoy it.

It would appear that coverage is blocked in Canada and several other countries.
    Why? I sure don't know.

The following pertains to availability or lack thereof of internet streaming video in Canada and not the virtual live saling subscription sevice. The internet streaming video quality is outstanding once you figure out how to access it.

Here's is the deal in Canada as I understand it but there is a glimmer of hope. Ironically distribution of internet streaming video is managed globally by a company based in Victoria, BC (NetroMedia -- www.netro.ca) The North American rights to broadcast the America's Cup are owned by VERSUS (a division of Comcast)which used to be known as OLN (outdoor life network). OLN Canada is a seperate entity that still exists and is owned by CTVglobemedia and will soon to be divested. OLN Canada has not purchased the rights from VERSUS. As a result VERSUS which has daily internet streaming video facilitated by NetroMedia and Alcatel Lucent is blocking access to Canadian IP addresses.http://juzou.boxstuff.net/player/versus

There are a number of ways around this but the easiest for now is to go to this site which is not blocking access of internet streaming video to Canadian IP adresses. If you go tohttp://www.americascupanywhere.com/us/ and click on the tab "INTERNET TV" you will be redirected to a page that contains numerous video clips (windows media). Use the tabs at the top of the page "AC News -- Highlights -- Magazine Legends" in conjunction with the tabs on the right hand side of the page "Schedule -- On Demand". The best content in my opinion is if you click "AC News" or "Highlights" and then click "On Demand".

Having had the opportunity to compare this site to the VERSUS site it would seem that most of the content is identical except that VERSUS offers access to the full lenghth video clips sooner than this one does. In the event that this site does get blocked there are a number of ways to circumvent the internet censorship in Canada but you'll need a friend in the US or country where it's not being censored and it's a bit more complex and likely not the intent of this sitehttp://www.psiphon.ca -- but it will work.

Please note that an internet streaming feed similar to the one identified above is available right here on Sail.TV and while it is supposed to be blocked to Canada (see the press release below)-- at this point it is not

Having coverage at all is fantastic -- the radio feed plus the Live Sailing animation seems to be best for following along as things take place.

The video highlights are a bit confusing though. Perhaps someone can clear up what's going on. All three sites, Sail.TV, Versus, and americascupanywhere.com all apparently use the same software. But, none of them are consistent in posting the videos:

    a) americascupanywhere seems to have the 15-20 min daily summaries, but not on the OnDemand tab, only on the Schedule tab where they aren't clickable and where all the old videos play in sequence first so that (I'm guessing) you'd have to time it just right to catch the latest.

    b) Sail.tv has that "application error" I haven't been able to get past.

    c) Versus has only the short 2 min daily summaries, as far as I can tell.

I'll keep clicking around each day to see if any of these options wil lead me to the longer daily updates consistently.

I imagine this will be ironed out as the races progress, but since neither Versus nor americascupanywhere have support address it's hard to tell what is going on.

I too am in Australia, a New Zealander living here and am amazed that for a country that has won it once that they have NO coverage at all!!! I also have Foxtel and only get 2 minute segments on EuroSports news that is pathetic. What the hell is going on with all of this coverage. A multi multi million dollar international event!!! Frustrating to say the absolute least.

I did an uninstall and re-install of MSIE for another reason, and no longer have the "Application Error".

I also now have figured out that the times shown on the Schedule tab are "hh:mm" of when that clip will start, but the times on the On Demand tab are "mm:ss" representing the length of the clip.

    I would like to know:
    a) is it intentional that the Highlights clips are several days out-of-date?
    b) where, if anywhere, is a place to see live video coverage from the US.

    Thanks!

Sail.tv may not be blocked in Canada yet as no one is running anything until the finals start, then TSN is going to carry it on their broadband streaming video so I was told when I emailed them. I guess 6hours of daily sport centre repeats are watched more then a few hours of live sailing

I am so glad I didn't fork out the $$ they were asking for the simulation. According to an email I received from OLN, Canada, they tried to purchase the Canadian rights from Versus, but they wouldn't sell. I wonder if the sponsors are aware of how poor the worldwide coverage is this time around?

Well, I must be in the minority here,I signed on with America's cup Live Sailing. At first I was disapointed, watching silent, animated replays. However, for the past month I have been up at 6:00 am, watching the races with live commentary. I found the commentary interesting, humorous, and informative. With the gaphics it was good, in a way not as good as tv. However, some days there were 3-4 different races going at the same time and I could jump back and forth between the races and matching the commentary to the graphic screens. With races starting at different times, there was usually something interesting going on somewhere, and the commentators were good at jumping to where the action was. Often they had direct experience as former, or current crew and could give insight on the action, the foredeck men teasing the afterguard, etc. Also, a lot of good comment on tactics and strategy. I have done a little racing, but pretty much a novice. I enjoyed and learned a lot. I'm looking forward to the simi-finals. I'll have my laptop and my TV going. PS.. I'm retired, live a rural area and media comes via satelite. Watching "live" sailing is time consuming, right in there with cycling, but if you have the luxury to do it it's fun.

I agree with you, Paul. The combination of the radio via internet and animation have been a very agreeable way to follow and learn. So good that my 13 year old son has gotten out of bed on his own at 7am each weekend day to be on-time for the starts! And, as a family we've learned a lot about the rules and strategies.

Aloha Everyone, I'm out here in the volcano area of tha Big Island, no tv, no radio , but I got tha sailtv.com . Vedio comes in fantastic for first minute or so and then Stall. Comentary is terrific, I've got tha fastest dsl available, can't wait for the rest of tha action though. A little is certainly better than nothing. If anyone can help me get better live or delayed vedio that would be Great. Thank you sailtv for trying!!!!!

Saw a report yesterday that TSN in Canada has struck a deal with Versus and will be broadcasting starting with the LV semis and continue with the America's cup (no other details though) - It seems to be legit as the AC website has changed and on their interactive map indicates that TSN will be broadcasting in Canada with a link -- but nothing as yet on TSN.ca http://www.americascup.com/en/americascup/how_to_follow/tv/index.php

I am currently in Hungary and of have subscribed for the Astra sat tv. I have approx 150 channels, but have not found anyone providing more then the 2 min. news coverage. Any tips ?
By the way, shame on the AC Management / Luis Vuitton for the absent of live coverage of the event. I can not imagine how this could be good for anyone. The VS simulation is better then nothing, just like virtual sex.
