What I am thinking of here is the fly on the wall warts 'n' all type documentary that shows the differences and similarities between the pro's and the am's in the world of yacht racing, detailing the tactics, characters and characteristics of the various boats and crews in Dinghy, inshore and offshore racing. Added to this could be a spin off series that would be of educational value, illustrating Colregs, Lights, Buoyage and the rules of racing set out in laymans terms as well as showing how to avoid incidents and accidents afloat, plus how not to get arrested in various countries for unwittingly violating their maritime laws! (Who wants to be arrested in Florida for using the heads or s***bucket when it is legal to do it over the side!)

As the Event Press Officer, I've been trying for a while now to enthuse a couple of specialist documentary makers to consider your first suggestion given that we provide virtually all the ingredients you suggest over a fabulous eight-day annual sailing regatta called Skandia Cowes Week with 1,000+ boats, 35 different classes, 8,500 competitors (the majority of whom are amateurs and a third of whom are women). This would work particulary well when Cowes precedes the Rolex Fastnet Race as it does this year (it's held every two years) when we attract the biggest and fastest of them all.

However, as with so many great ideas, the idea needs financing...big time...in order to bring it to fruition and to your screens.
