    Fractional Ownership 34 members

    Created by Eric Busse

While many dream of owning a beautiful sailboat, for most, the cost of ownership is beyond either our reach or simply too great for the amount of time we have to sail. Fractional ownership has long been common practice in aviation and with luxury yachts. In sailing, the concept of paying for use as opposed to ownership has seen some success with commercial enterprises like SmartSail, SailTime, and Pinnacle. This group is not about buying a quarter share of a million dollar yacht or paying a monthly fee to rent a boat. It is about sharing information on how to successfully create and manage an ownership partnership of a sailboat with as little stress and financial uncertainty as possible. Suggested topics include: Criteria for selecting partners Criteria for selecting your boat Legal agreements Strategies for managing service and maintenance Expenses and bookkeeping Strategies for scheduling use Managing loss or addition of a partner Welcome Aboard! Sincerely, Eric Busse Seattle, Washington, USA

    Catamaran Sailing 18 members

    Created by Nektaria Barelou

Sailing Catamarans is not more difficult, many say it's easier than Monohull sailing. Reefing:It's easier to shorten or furl sails quietly and safely, due to minimum heel even at strong winds. But the quiet sailing in strong winds may be treacherous: Don't under estimate wind pressures on sails and rig! Therefore watch wind instruments and start early reefing according to wind speed and direction using recommended sail reductions from the reef table (on board). Manoeuvring:Use twin engine controls for sensitive and save manoeuvring, especially under difficult wind and narrow harbour conditions: Turning on the dish/ with one engine back and one forward, then control the boat straight while going backwards. Approach carefully to your mooring place controlling the boat only with both propellers (leave the rudder near mid-ship). Anchoring:Once the anchor is right on the ground and enough chain out. Slowly increase both engine/s power backwards for digging the anchor into the ground. Drive anchor in or tear it in with the winch until it really holds. Hook a Bridle onto the anchor chain to provide against swaying in stronger head or side winds
