MERMAID MATCH RACING CHAMPIONSHIP

The Sea View Yacht Club, Isle of Wight, will be running the Mermaid Match Racing Championships on 22nd and 23rd of April 2006. This RYA grade 3 match-racing event has been run successfully for the last two years and gives competitors a chance to compete in the club’s own racing yachts.
The Sea View Mermaid was designed for racing in East Wight waters by Arthur Robb forty years ago. The hulls have all been replaced in GRP within the last ten years with advice from David Thomas. With different coloured hulls and spinnakers it is possible for spectators to enjoy the racing on the usually sheltered but interesting waters immediately off the village. The Mermaid is a three-man keelboat with a conventional spinnaker. Class rules prevent sitting out so making crew-weight less of a factor. The Mermaids are raced every day throughout the summer by many different organisations including the Inter-Services team-racing Championships and the Prince Phillip Cup.
