The crew of Mutua Madrileña with its mixture of regular Mean Machine crew and a scattering on Emirates Team New Zealand crew, won the first race of the day in the Punta Ala Yacht Club Trophy in Italy. The Spanish entry led more or less from the start in between 8-10 knots of wind. They were chased hard by the German entries, Pinta and Platoon with the Ricardo Simoneschi´s Anonimo putting in a spirited fight on the 8.5 mile windward-leeward course. At the finish line Warpath were flying a protest flag against Orlanda. The second race of the day started some 20minutes after the finish.
The increase in wind during the course of the second race made for a spectacular sight on the race course for the second windward-leeward race. With winds of up to 18 knots from the north east Mutua Madrileña again dominated the Transpac fleet from the start.
The aggresiveness of skipper Peter de Ridder and his capacity to control the game allowed the Mean Machine team to make very tight manouvres and gain split second advantages over the rest of the fleet.
Behind Mutua Madrileña the fight for podium position was fierce as it was throughout the fleet.
