28th Regates Royale - Panerai Classic Yachts Challenge

Cannes bay in France is hosting the XXVIII edition of Regates Royales, scheduled from September 24 to October 1, the fifth and last stage of Panerai Classic Yachts Challenge 2006 circuit. The Regates Royales are organized by the Cannes Yacht Club, sponsored by the Yacht Club de France and the CIM (Comitee International du Mediterraneo), they gather about 150 boats, the most beautiful of the world still sailing. In the unique atmosphere of the Cannes ’ Vieux Port, three yacht categories are going to be here: Vintage (built before 1950), Classic (between 1951 and 1976) and Tradition’ Spirit, besides the Metrical Class, Dragon Class and Toucan Class .

To Officine Panerai, the event’s main partner, Cannes is the final circuit stage of the season, which began in May with the Les Voiles d’Antibes, has been going on in the Argentario Sailing Week at Porto Santo Stefano, then to the Copa del Rey de Barcos de Epoca at Port Mahon in Spain, finally the Vintage Sails at Imperia. A long path, a successful circuit putting together hundreds of boats, thousands of sailors, media and audience with a good increase when compared with 2005 edition .

The scheduled races start on Monday 25 for “Metrical”, “Dragon” and “Toucan” classes, while traditional sailing ship are going to start on Tuesday 26 to end on Saturday 30. Friday will take place the Dragon’s prizegiving; on Saturday the prize- awarding ceremony, where not only this stage’s winners are going to be awarded, but the absolute ultimate winners of the Panerai Classic Yachts Challenge Circuit.

The regattas will have place in the usually favourable condition of Cannes ’ Bay, with thermic wind or fresh mistral, in the fascinating landscape from the Lerins Island and the Esterel and Mercantour massif in the background.
