Hamilton, Bermuda (28 February 2007) – In recognition of their outstanding on-the-water achievements in the 2006 calendar year, Bermuda Sailing Association is pleased to announce the Bermudian Sailors who have made the short list for consideration

Hamilton, Bermuda (28 February 2007) – In recognition of their outstanding on-the-water achievements in the 2006 calendar year, Bermuda Sailing Association is pleased to announce the Bermudian Sailors who have made the short list for consideration as the 2006 OMEGA Sailors of the Year. The Bermuda Sailing Association has teamed up with the OMEGA to honor our sailors. OMEGA has agreed to present OMEGA time pieces to each of the recipients. With these awards we will be able to acknowledge the hard work, dedication and accomplishments of our local sailors here and abroad. The winners will receive their watches from Mr. Gregory Swift, President of Omega North America during a ceremony hosted by Bacardi International at their world headquarters on Pitts Bay Road on the evening of March 6th.

Nominees for the Bermuda Sailing Association 2006 OMEGA Youth Sailor of the Year: Joshua Greenslade (Smiths, Bermuda), William Hutchings (Paget, Bermuda), and Haley Powell (St. George, Bermuda)
Nominees for the Bermuda Sailing Association 2006 OMEGA Female Sailor of the Year: Maria Stephani (Paget, Bermuda) and Katrina Williams (Pembroke, Bermuda).
Nominees for the Bermuda Sailing Association 2006 OMEGA Male Sailor of the Year: Malcolm Smith (Smiths, Bermuda) and Blythe Walker (Southampton, Bermuda).

Members of the Bermuda Sailing Association were asked nominate sailors with outstanding performances for 2006. The BSA has narrowed the field to 2 or 3 in each category. The Bermuda Sailing Association Board of Governors will then vote by secret ballot to determine the Bermuda Sailing Association 2006 OMEGA Sailors of the Year.

About the Bermuda Sailing Association
The Bermuda Sailing Association (BSA) is the governing body for the sport of sailing in Bermuda and is recognized by the Bermuda Government and the International Sailing Federation (ISAF).
It was formed more than 30 years ago by the sailing clubs of the island, the racing classes and individuals who participate in sailing activities.

December 2006 -Bermuda Laser Radial National Championships: 4th place, 1st among male youths.
William also participates on the Milton team, primarily team racing.

2006 USA Nationals – 4th and 1st girl out of 279 from 8 countries (USA – BERNORPURIVBISVCANGBR), in red fleet she placed 3rd overall and 1st girl out of 124.

Katrina should have represented Bermuda in the Volvo Youth Worlds event as well, but due to a moped accident in mid June, she was unable to sail.
Katrina is currently enrolled at Old Dominion University, as a freshman, and a member of their Varsity sailing program under head coach Mitch Brindley. They train Tuesday through Friday for an average of 13 hours per week and travel to sailing regatta’s most every weekend.
