Thursday sailing went very well. It was our first day on the water of the Starnberg See (near München) after 2 days of rigging the boat, and making some changes / refinements that we thought were necessary after our training session in Medemblik.
Initially we took it easy, making sure the boat and rig (mast) were ok, and then concentrated on crew work for the remainder of the session. As I haven’t sailed with Andreas and Gert before, we worked on who was doing what on the boat, and focused on getting the manoeuvres smoother.
We also had the opportunity to line-up with Basilica and iShares, and raced against them around two marks on the water…our boats speed was similar, and as with the previous regattas, the racing will come down to crew work and being smart on the water.
Sailing on this lake will be tricky and challenging for all the teams, as the wind can and will be inconsistent in strength and direction. So it will be easy to go from 1st to last, but it also will allow you to get back into the race if you are at the back of the fleet. Yes…consistency will prove to be the key to winning!
Today’s session will again focus on crew work, but also on rig tuning and sail trim, setting the boat up for light wind conditions and flat water.
