100 Years 100 Boats

In 2007, 28 million young people worldwide now take part in the adventure of Scouting and this year the movement celebrates its centenary with a programme of events and activities across the UK and worldwide. As part of our own local celebrations, on 2nd June 2007 Fareham West and Itchen South Scout Districts are organising a Parade of 100 Boats along the Hamble River. Our plan is for 100 boats to gather in the Bursledon area and parade along the river finishing at Warsash Sailing Club for a social gathering.
In 1907 Lord Robert Baden-Powell held an experimental camp on Brownsea Island in Poole. He brought together 20 boys, some from public schools and some from working class homes, and put them into camp under his leadership. There will be four categories of boat taking part; Yachts, Powerboats, Dinghies and Kayaks. We are expecting a large turnout, including good media coverage, and have been given permission to host an exhibition area for sponsors to exhibit on the day opposite The Rising Sun in Warsash. We would really value any support you can provide.
