China Cup International Regatta (CCIR) today announced its sponsorship packages for companies wishing to get involved in the world’s newest and most ambitious sailing festival.

Different levels of sponsorship are available to businesses including Global Strategic Partner, Senior Sponsors, Event Sponsor and Official Supplier offering varying levels of benefits, CEO of the CCIR Management Company David Zhong told an audience at the Shanghai Boat Show.

Depending on levels of sponsorship, benefits to the sponsors can include usage rights of China Cup’s fleet of one design Beneteau First 40.7s, site and boat branding, VIP attendance at the regatta and other associated events including the celebrity golf tournament, fashion show and opening and closing ceremonies and extensive media coverage.

The 13th China International Boat Show also witnessed the signing of a partnership between China Cup and its Hong Kong agent, Simpson Marine, who becomes a senior sponsor of China Cup for five years.

Beneteau became a Global Strategic Partner in a deal signed in Paris last month when China Cup bought 20 new Beneteau First 40.7s to add to the ten bought for its one design class event last year.

David Zhong said:

“China Cup offers a unique opportunity for Chinese brands wanting to reach an international audience and for international brands wanting to break into the Chinese market.

“As the world’s newest and most ambitious sailing event it offers glamour, fashion and a freshness invaluable to similar-minded businesses.

“Interest in sailing in China is growing rapidly and China Cup, held in China’s richest city of Shenzhen, is a unique opportunity to reach that market.

“This year’s event will be even bigger and better than our inaugural regatta last year which alone attracted more than 60 teams from 14 countries and regions and a media audience of more than 78 million.”

Research carried out by China Cup shows that the 2007 regatta was featured live by more than 200 media organizations, three quarters of which were mainstream outlets such as CCTV, CNN, BBC and AFP with total audiences of more than a million each and more than 22,000 spectators also attended the event.

Successful sponsors last year included Lenovo Thinkpad computers, who chose China Cup to promote its brand concepts of “continuous innovation, pioneering and elite culture”, Crocs shoes with its brand concepts of “stylish, trendy, young and energetic” and 1436 cashmere clothing, an “innovative high-end Chinese label.”

This year’s regatta will include a Hong Kong – Shenzhen passage race, windward/leeward and islands races in Daya Bay, Shenzhen from October 24 to 27.
