Sailing Networks would like to congratulate one of our featured bloggers Paul Goodison ion his spectacular gold medal, sailing his Laser, at the 2008 Beijing Olympic Games in Qingdao.
Four-time European champion Goodison, who finished fourth on his Olympic debut at Athens 2004, lead the fleet by 18 points going into the final day’s race, meaning as long as the Brit did not finish 10th and last in the race and second-placed Swede Rasmus Myrgren win it, the Olympic crown would be Goodison’s. Despite the light winds, Goodison ensured that Rasmus Myrgren was sailed to the back of the fleet at the start and kept him there throughout the race, denying Myrgren any chance of reaching the front and threatening his gold. Goodison finished the race in ninth and Myrgren in tenth place for Goodison to be crowned Olympic champion with 63 points, eight points ahead of silver medalist Vasilij Zbogar from Slovenia with Italian Diego Romero taking the bronze medal.
A fantastic effort by Paul capping a superb run of success by Team GBR – well done to everyone involved from all at Sailing Networks.
