Salthouse Boatbuilders Ltd was founded in 1956 by John Salthouse and is now an iconic part of the New Zealand marine industry. Although the yard has undergone several changes during the last 50 years it has remained a family owned and operated business and continues to produce boats of the highest quality.
With his wife Judy, John is still actively involved in the day-to-day running of the yard and shares his extensive knowledge with staff and clients.
Their youngest son Greg is now the Executive Director and is responsible for running the company. Greg started his apprenticeship at the yard in 1991 and has inherited his father’s passion for boats.
Another son, Chris,or Curly as he is universally known, recently joined Salthouse Boatbuilders in a sales and marketing role.
As well as being one of the few yards with the skill and knowledge to undertake traditional timber projects, Salthouse Boatbuilders also has a global reputation for producing composite boats on the cutting edge of technology. Recently we went into production of our new Southstar 37 which is a semi-custom traditionally styled powerboat.
Our yard is located at Greenhithe on the upper reaches of Auckland’s Waitemata Harbour and has three slipways capable of hauling vessels up to 100 tonnes. Services include major refits, aluminium and steel repairs, marine engineering, painting, and joinery work.
Attention to detail throughout the construction process ensures that our boats continue to uphold the reputation John earned when he started the business over 50 years ago.
