SUNSAIL ANNOUNCES A NEW NORTHERN CROATIAN BASE IN PULA
Sunsail Events @ Mon Jan 19 15:17:00 2009
Located on the Istrian Peninsula, which borders Slovenia and is close to Italy, the city of Pula is packed with museums and steeped in history, with traces of Byzantine, Venetian and Austrian cultures still evident in the city today. Pula is also home to one of the world’s largest Roman amphitheaters; certainly the most beautiful by its elegance.
Croatia’s pleasures are timeless – along its 1778km coastline, a glistening sea winds around rocky coves, lapping at pine-fringed beaches. Heading out from Pula, the cruising opportunities are vast with numerous anchorages off islands to the east, such as Cres, Losinj, Krk, Rab and Silba – all very different and very beautiful. On a two week charter from Pula, sailors may choose to head further afield by cruising south to the spectacular and serene Kornati National Park or even on to the popular islands of Hvar and Korcula.
“This stunning cruising area offers the best of everything Croatian, combining bustling towns with a fascinating cultural heritage with deserted islands and beautiful bays, and is a great addition to our worldwide sailing offerings”, said Cheryl Powell, Sunsail Managing Director.
Pula base offers a range of yachts from 39 to 47 foot, including the superb new Sunsail 44i by Jeanneau. The Sunsail base is just 15 minutes drive from Pula airport within Marina Veruda, a modern facility with a number of bars and restaurants, showers and a supermarket – rated the most popular marina in North Croatia. Sunsail’s new base investment in Pula follows recent openings in Palermo and Tropea in Italy, Koh Chang in Thailand and a base in the Kingdom of Tonga.
SUNSAIL LAUNCH THE NEW SUNSAIL 384 CATAMARAN
Sunsail Events @ Mon Jan 19 15:12:00 2009
The Sunsail 384 has been specifically produced for Sunsail, with the design completed by Morrelli and Melvin and the build by Robertson and Caine. Offering a high performance including a generous sail plan, this catamaran is a market leader yet also is highly practical and easy-to-use, making it an ideal entry level catamaran.
“The Sunsail 384 catamaran is yet another example of our commitment to investing in our high quality charter fleet. By commissioning the best designers and builders, we have been able to produce a supremely comfortable and easy to sail catamaran that puts sailing performance and customer comfort at the forefront”, comments Cheryl Powell, Sunsail Managing Director.
Superb performance from the Sunsail 384 is guaranteed, with the large sail area combining with a high-volume hull that offers both improved pitch resistance and load carrying capacity. The balanced spade rudders, with their Edson wire and chain steering, plus the centralised sail control system ensure simple and comfortable helming.
Inside, comfort as ever remains a top priority. The spacious four double cabin, two head layout gives plenty of room for groups or families, plus an additional forepeak berth is ideal for children or simply extra storage. Generous headroom of 1.95 metres throughout plus substantial storage capacity as a result of under-bunk lockers in each cabin gives even more space for onboard relaxation.
The exterior of the Sunsail 384 is equally well thought out, with a cockpit hardtop providing excellent shade and weather protection and a powerboat-style stepped transom enabling easier boarding. The vertical front windscreens give superb panoramic visibility, more effective use of interior volume and also sun protection. Environmental considerations were also central to the design, with solar panels installed on the helm hardtop that are able to charge the onboard batteries; giving an estimated 20 per cent saving on engine hours and therefore increasing the lifespan of the onboard batteries by up to five years.
Sunsail has invested over £15 million in their fleet over the past year, including a new monohull range by Jeanneau, completed this winter by the arrival of the Sunsail 44i in the Caribbean.

"Team Knot Again" Braves the Gales to Win Sunsail's Tall Ships Youth Trust Charity Regatta
Sunsail Events @ Wed Nov 12 14:20:00 2008
The annual event offers an opportunity to help raise money to support the Tall Ships Youth Trust bursaries for young people and celebrate the work of the Trust, as well as providing a fun weekend of exhilarating matched racing.
The racing took from Port Solent, using Sunsail’s dedicated matched fleet of racing yachts. Saturday morning dawned with moderately strong winds, allowing an exciting first race, before starting to ease off in the afternoon to give crews a brief respite.
On Sunday the crews headed back out in to the Solent battling at times gale force winds, along with squally showers. Close racing ensued with “Team Knot Again” taking the first race honours and “Not Old Just Grumpy”, skippered by Tim Law, winning the final race. A valiant challenge from Timothy Allen’s “Tim’s Team”, who recorded a very consistent three second places, was not enough to stop “Team Knot Again” becoming the overall 2008 event champions.
