    Royal Hamilton Amateur Dinghy Club

    From its origin on Reid Street, the club moved to Church Street and in 1964 it acquired its present premises overlooking Hamilton Harbour. In 1977 the Club became co-sponsors of a cruising race held on a biennial basis between Marion, Massachusetts and Bermuda. The arrangements between the Beverly Yacht Club, the Blue Waters Sailing Club and the Royal Hamilton Amateur Dinghy Club has proved to be a resounding success, the attraction of a cruising and family race encouraging a large number of enthusiastic participants. In 1990 the Club carried out a major rehabilitation and remodeling to its premises so continuing its status as Bermuda's premier maritime club.

    Formed in 1999, this Association organizes Sunday races and clinics for Byte sailors in Bermuda. Targeting the 125 - 160 lb range of sailor, this class has a devoted following. Especially for the initial post-Opti crowd.

    The Royal Bermuda Yacht Club is a private Club and is the third oldest club holding a Royal Warrant outside the British Isles. The Bermuda Yacht Club was established on the 1st November, 1844 by a party of thirty gentlemen, consisting largely of officers in the British Army, most of them belonging to the 20th Regiment, then stationed here in Bermuda. There are now approximately 850 resident and non-resident members.

    The Bermuda Sailing Association (BSA) is the governing body for the sport of sailing in Bermuda and is recognised by the Bermuda Government and the International Sailing Federation (ISAF). It was formed more than 30 years ago by the sailing clubs of the island, the racing classes and individuals who participate in sailing activities.

    IRC is managed in Bermuda by the ISAF Member National Authority – Bermuda Sailing Association (BSA). A committee of BSA, “IRC Bermuda”, oversees the rating system, including setting regatta standards, marketing the rule, and processing certificates for Bermuda yachts.

    Bermuda International One Design Fleet

    Class Association

    The Bermuda International One Design Fleet is the oldest actively raced sailing fleet in Bermuda, with a history of over 60 years of competitive world-class racing. The International One Design (IOD) is a graceful, classic design which was the first class to be recognized by the International Sailing Federation in the Classic Yacht category. The IOD design has its roots in a Six-Metre yacht named “Saga”, built in 1935 for Eldon and Kenneth Trimingham of Bermuda. The six metre design was modified to make the boat easier to handle as a one design class racer. The first five Bermuda IODs arrived in 1938. Since then, IOD fleets have been established internationally, and now actively race in Norway, Sweden, Scotland, the east and west coasts of the USA, and Bermuda.

    Class Association

    A long and proud tradition of fitted dinghy sailing exists in Bermuda. Piloting a unique craft, known as the Bermuda Fitted Dinghy, crews can be seen racing in various harbours about Bermuda from May until September. A fully rigged dinghy can be found in Bermuda's Dockyard Maritime Museum.
