Thames Young Mariners has been offering courses to young people for many years; we continue to build on this success by offering courses at our other centres. Experienced, qualified instructors deliver all the courses and in some cases accreditation can be achieved. Courses are available during the school holidays (Easter, summer half term and the summer holidays).

Young Paddlers
We offer young people the chance to enjoy paddling on either the beginners or imporvers courses. These exciting, specially designed courses, give 8 – 14 year olds the opportunity to experience a variety of canoeing skills.
The course aims for participant to achieve part or all of the British Canoe Union Paddlepower Scheme.
On the water they will be required to wear appropriate casual clothing and footwear (old trainers are good as they will get wet). There is a chance that their clothes may get wet, so bring a change of clothing, a towel and wash gear as we have shower facilities in the changing rooms.
The price of the course includes the use of buoyancy aids and protective clothing, where appropriate. You will require a packed lunch for each day.
The course is run between 9.30 am and 4.30 pm but you may request supervision between 9.00 am – 9.30 am and 4.30 pm and 5.00 pm, staffing permitting.
You must be the parent or legal guardian booking a course for your child(ren)/ward under 18. We also provide information on Weils disease as recommended by BCU.
Young Sailors
We offer a number of Royal Yachting Association accredited courses for 8 – 16 year olds. You will progress and consolidate your sailing every time you attend these courses and may achieve stages 1, 2, 3, or 4 of the RYA Young Sailors Scheme.
The young people will be taught a variety of skills including launching and recovery, steering, parts of the boat, ropework and collision avoidance. All training on the water subject to weather conditions.
The boats used by the young people on the courses depend on the course, the 8-11 year olds use the Topper Taz, the 11-14 years old us the Laser Pico and the Improvers use the Topper Magno.

Multi Activity
We offer exciting, specially designed courses for 8 to 11 year olds, 11 to 14 year olds and 13 to 16 year olds. The participants are given the opportunity to experience a variety of water and land based activities.
They will have a chance to do different activities, which may include:- canoeing, dragon boating, orienteering, trail biking, raft building and team games.
On the water they will be required to wear appropriate casual clothing and footwear (old trainers are good as they will get wet). There is a chance that their clothes may get wet, so bring a change of clothing, a towel and wash gear as we have shower facilities in the changing rooms.
The price of the course includes use of buoyancy aids and protective clothing, where appropriate.
