UK Laser 5000 Class Association

The 5000 was the most exciting new boat to enter the dinghy racing scene in the 1990’s. Not only does it offer high performance adrenalin filled thrills, it is also allows different size crews to compete equally for the first time.

The 5000’s Power Equalisation system is unique. Most two person racing classes have polarised around an optimum height / weight combination. The 5000 is different. The sailling weight and righting moment “power” of every crew sailing the boat is equalised by the adjustable racks and weight system. This ensures that whatever the weather, every crew has to rely on its ability, not its weight or power.

Matched to this are Laser’s legendary strict one-design rules. The boat’s layout is well designed with the right equipment in just the right place. This allows the one-design rules to be stricter than almost any other class – keeping down costs and ensuring everyone has the same speed boat.
